We are a south asian couple, living in Germany since 2015. This decade has taught us how to live in a whole new world. It shattered our pretenses that innovative shortcuts can take us through the unending paperwork the German bureaucracy breathes on, blasted various imaginary bubbles for us, making us live in reality, and shaped us to be better and braver in the job market.
Talking about the German job market, I shall skip narrating the daily challenges we faced, as I am sure you might be aware of them in one way or another already. Because if you're still reading this, you might be facing quite a few yourself :). But I want to focus on sharing our story of why Arbeitly was born for job-seekers like you.
We claim that Arbeitly was created for employees by employees. This cannot get more literal. Why? My husband and I were ourselves trapped in the cycle of waiting for interviews, continuously shuffling daily tasks to squeeze out time for applying for jobs and still receiving undesirable results after waiting for months... basically not getting what we aimed for in our careers. Frustrating? Absolutely!
My husband was already working a full time job, but desperately wanting to switch to a better, higher role and I, a mother of two (a toddler and a baby), was working part-time remotely. We both were managing home and kids and... well you'd be able to imagine the rest that life throws at you in Germany. It was not like back in our home countries, where one has the luxury of family support. You need to do everything yourself here. Homemaking skills unlocked for us here, which is great, but one gets only 24 hours everyday, right?
One day when I got enough, my husband, the genius, derived a framework, a pretty smart strategy for both of us to find success in the German job market. Using this excellent framework I was blessed with a job locally as a manager (not an entry level, mind you, but manager level in Marketing) and my husband secured around 80 interviews and 3 job offers in around 4 months! That too senior manager/department head level positions. True story people. Not joking.
When we saw how effective our system was, we recognized an opportunity: whoever we asked around, job-seekers were in fact facing similar problems in finding jobs. In 2023 we started helping our friends and family in Germany. Receiving validation from them and others in the network who appreciated our idea, our belief in this system got stronger.
Only then did we make this skill of crafting strategies available for others like us too. Expats, job-seekers, students and others arriving in Germany – driven by ambition but often lacking time, guidance, or clarity. While it can also be easy for us to say that Covid-19 ate our time, when it struck the world with its fears, we were brave enough (like many others) to hold back just the right amount of time and stay in gratitude for the job that was actually paying our bills. That was the height of patience where everybody had to just wait and stay grateful for having health as the biggest luxury at that point. Patience is still patience today. You need to keep applying, keep holding on to the right strategy for you and stay patient.
